Welcoming King River Estate

We’re thrilled to welcome King River Estate to the Wines of the King Valley community.

The calm exterior of King River Estate, overlooking the stunning King River in Edi, gives little clue that, behind the scenes, lots of exciting action has been taking place.

The winery—which was established in 1990—is under new ownership and John Flower is King River Estate’s new cellar door and marketing manager.

Having spent many years in the travel and tourism industry within Australia, the UK and the Middle East, specialising in food and wine travel to France, Italy and Spain, John says that joining King River Estate is an exciting move. “It’s been a natural progression for me to go from something that was different but still so closely linked,” he says. “Food and wine are great catalysts to bring people together across the table.”

King River Estate is already known for its high quality wines, including Chardonnay, Merlot and bold Reserve Merlot, Shiraz, acclaimed Vermentino, Sangiovese, Barbera, Saperavi, sublime Rosé, Pinot Grigio and Lagrein.

There are lots of plans ahead for this beautiful property, including releasing a new Prosecco and dessert wine, hosting weddings and events, and renovating the onsite accommodation to re-open for bookings.

Ultimately, King River Estate is keen to retain its signature range, as well as innovate with new wines and its more unusual varieties like Saperavi and Lagrein. “The new owners want to maintain the high quality, rustic appeal that the King Valley is famous for,” John says.

“Being part of the Wines of the King Valley community puts us in with a group of like minded winery owners, who want to create a great overall experience for visitors.”
